"Timeless story of music over medicine...belongs in every Latin-American Studies program."
- Diana de Armas Wilson, Renaissance Studies, U. Denver

"Vivid portrait of a disappearing world of ancestral knowledge — highly recommended."
- Alejandro Camino, Director, Peru Heritage Program

The Shipibo-Conibo people have lived in the Peruvian Amazon for over 4,000 years, passing on their knowledge of plants and sacred songs from one generation to the next. "Voices That Heal" tells the story of Herlinda Augustin, a renowned Shipibo shaman, healer and medicine woman, and her struggle to keep her traditions alive while facing the challenges of the modern world. The film offers an intimate look into the world of shamanism and asks: What are people without their traditions? What are traditions without their people?
